What Causes Dark Underarms and Treatments for it

What are dark underarms? Dark underarms are particularly not harmful, however they do ruin our self confidence. The proper term for the discoloration is called hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is a common condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin colour, forms deposits in the skin. What causes dark underarms? Shaving may seem like the quickest technique to get rid of underarm hair. Having said that, razor blades can be abrasive as they remove the top protective layer of the skin, causing irritation. Tight clothing. Wearing very tight clothes generate friction against the skin and frequent rubbing can result in hyperpigmentation. Deodorants or antiperspirants. Deodorants contain paraben, alcohol and fragrances that can irritate the skin and cause inflammation leading to thickening and darkening of the skin over time. Many antiperspirants also use aluminum as an active ingredient, which clogs up the sweat ducts causing pigmentation in your underarms. Dead skin accumulation. Dead skin cells get accumulated in every part of your body and underarms are no different. When you don’t clean the area well or fail to scrub it every few days it can lead to darkening. Hormonal changes. Fluctuations of female hormones such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), pregnancies, even hormonal pills may cause our skin to produce more pigmentations over the folds on our body such as underarms, groins, or under our breasts. Very often dark underams

What Are Vascular Conditions (Redness or visible veins)?

What Are Vascular Conditions (Redness or visible veins)? Vascular conditions refer to conditions that are caused by blood vessels, or the appearance of blood vessels. These may include rosacea, active acne scars, vascular birthmarks, atypical appearance of veins and redness. Types of Vascular Conditions   Rosacea– is a chronic inflammatory skin condition with underlying vascular reactivity that causes flushing and irritating skin. The cause of this condition remained unknown and there is no specific cure for such condition. Rosacea tend to present with broken capillaries over the cheeks and redness over the Tzone, enlarged pores with acne and oily proned skin as well. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation refers to discoloration in response to injuries to the skin. This may be due to physical injuries, sunburns, infections and inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and acne. These may range from white to pink, red and brown, such as the redness left behind by an active acne breakout. Atypical Vein Appearance refers to veins showing through the skin. These form when the blood vessels weaken or when blood pools in the veins for other reasons. Spider veins or Spider Angiomas refer to red patches of dilated capillaries that have a distinctive spiderweb pattern, usually with one central dilated capillary and other slimmer capillaries branching off. Vascular Birthmarks are caused by extra blood vessels clumping together, resulting in discolouration. The most commonly seen vascular birthmarks are Port-wine birthmarks, also known as Naevus flammeus. It is caused by abnormal formations of blood vessels under the

How to improve Skin Elasticity

How to improve Skin Elasticity What is Skin Elasticity? Skin elasticity is crucial in maintaining a youthful appearance. However, skin elasticity may decrease with age or sun exposure, leading to sagging and dullness. Collagen, a naturally-occurring protein found in connective tissue, is the main factor in skin elasticity. As such, improving skin elasticity mainly consists of gaining more collagen or boosting collagen production. At our clinic, we offer several treatment options that will help you get your skin elasticity back. Ultherapy is a non-invasive, FDA approved treatment that uses highly focused ultrasound waves to lift, tighten and smoothen skin by boosting collagen production.  How Does Ultherapy Work? Ultherapy generates heat under the skin to create a perceived “injury“ to the tissue under the skin, leading to the promotion of collagen production to aid in wound-healing. This helps to plump, lift and smooth the skin, creating more elasticity and overall smoother skin. Skincare Solutions that contain collagen-boosting active ingredients may be prescribed to help with collagen processing and production. Medical grade skincare such as moisturisers and serums help retain the skin’s natural moisture, keeping it looking plump and supple while reducing fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration. What Kinds of Active Ingredients Are In Skincare Solutions? Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occuring substance found throughout the body. It binds to water, retaining moisture in the body to keep it hydrated. Retinoids boost collagen production by deeply penetrating the skin to remove free radicals. This helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while

What is Acne Scar & What Causes Acne Scar?

What Are Acne Scars? Even after acne symptoms clear up, there may still be some discolouration or scarring left behind by those symptoms. That is known as Acne Scarring. Types of Acne Scarring Acne Scarring may range from mild “scarring” such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which refers to red or brown discoloured spots, to depressed scars, which are usually grouped into three categories, boxcar scars, icepick scars and rolling scars. Boxcar scars are wide and U-shaped with sharp edges. Rolling scars are wide with rounded edges and an irregular rolling shape. Icepick scars are deep and narrow, resembling small round or oval holes. Acne scarring usually comes in a combination of scar types. At our clinic, we offer a variety of treatment options to provide the most suitable plan for your unique skin condition. How Do You Treat Acne Scarring? Peels exfoliate the surface of the skin, which helps to improve skin texture, fill in depressed scars and clear pigmentation from within. Chemical peels cause the top layers of the epidermis to peel off, boosting cell turnover and renewal rate. How Do Chemical Peels Work? Depending on your skin condition and the depth of the pigmentation or scarring, our doctors will prescribe either milder peels such as ones using Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), or stronger peels that use trichloroacetic acid (TCA). The skin will produce more collagen in reaction to old skin peeling off, which breaks down the pigmentation and helps to “fill in” the depression left by the scar.

Facial Contouring or V Face

What Is Facial Contouring? Having a v-shaped jawline, plump and full cheeks while minimising wrinkles is the gold-standard of Asian beauty. However, it can be difficult to achieve without professional help, especially as many Asian faces tend to be square or have more muscles near the jawline. At our clinic, we offer a variety of treatments to help you achieve a smaller, slimmer face. How Can You Achieve A Slimmer Face Shape/Jawline? To achieve a slimmer jawline, the muscles around the jaw need to be relaxed. Asians tend to have square jaws due to strong jaw muscles in that area creating a stocky silhouette. Botulinum Toxin A, is a protein produced by certain species of bacterium. The botulinum toxin brands that are approved in Singapore are Dysport, Botox, and Xeomin. How Does Botox Work? It blocks selected chemical signals from nerves, mostly signals which cause muscles to contract. Injecting Botulinum Toxin A into the jaw muscles relaxes the jaw muscles and prevent them from contracting and becoming bulky, which then creates a shaper, slender V-shaped face that is the most desired facial silhouette that most people look for. How Can You Achieve A More Defined/Sharper Chin? To achieve a sharper, defined or pronounced chin, we offer chin fillers, which may help lengthen and project the chin forward to enchance the facial profile from front and side views. Fillers may also help to even skin texture such as dimpling or “pebbled” skin in the area that is often caused by
