How to improve Skin Elasticity

How to improve Skin Elasticity

What is Skin Elasticity?

Skin elasticity is crucial in maintaining a youthful appearance. However, skin elasticity may decrease with age or sun exposure, leading to sagging and dullness. Collagen, a naturally-occurring protein found in connective tissue, is the main factor in skin elasticity. As such, improving skin elasticity mainly consists of gaining more collagen or boosting collagen production. At our clinic, we offer several treatment options that will help you get your skin elasticity back.

Ultherapy is a non-invasive, FDA approved treatment that uses highly focused ultrasound waves to lift, tighten and smoothen skin by boosting collagen production.

How Does Ultherapy Work?

authentic
  • Ultherapy generates heat under the skin to create a perceived “injury“ to the tissue under the skin, leading to the promotion of collagen production to aid in wound-healing. This helps to plump, lift and smooth the skin, creating more elasticity and overall smoother skin.

Skincare Solutions that contain collagen-boosting active ingredients may be prescribed to help with collagen processing and production. Medical grade skincare such as moisturisers and serums help retain the skin’s natural moisture, keeping it looking plump and supple while reducing fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration.

What Kinds of Active Ingredients Are In Skincare Solutions?

  • Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occuring substance found throughout the body. It binds to water, retaining moisture in the body to keep it hydrated.
  • Retinoids boost collagen production by deeply penetrating the skin to remove free radicals. This helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while improving skin elasticity. They also have an exfoliating effect on the outer layers of skin, boosting cell regeneration and improving skin texture.

Chemical Peels help to boost cell turnover and renewal rate by removing dead skin.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

  • Chemicals such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) or Salicylic acid (SA) or a combination of acids can be used as chemical peel to improve skin renewal. These product will be applied to the skin to exfoliate the top layer of skin intentionally, promoting cell renewal and turnover rate, while boosting collagen in response to the perceived injury to the skin.

Lasers such as the Q-switched laser, BB Thulium Laser and Yellow Laser are all able to help boost collagen production in response to heat from the laser.

How Do Lasers Work?

  • Aesthetic lasers break down pigmentation or shrink blood vessels to leave the skin brighter and clearer, while the heat causes the surrounding tissue to boost collagen therefore leading to smoother and brighter skin.
